Why Blogging is an Indefeasible Part Of A Successful Business

Featured image for Why Blogging is an Indefeasible Part Of A Successful Business

If we go by the definition a blog

"A website on which an individual or group of users record opinion, information etc. on a regular basis"What is the value in blogging for a business? The opinion and information about a business should be hosted on a website. That's why if you're an entrepreneur you need to create a business website. The blog comes in addition. Here are a few reasons why you need to start blogging to make your business prosper.

Communicate Different Opinions and Information about your Business

The will serve as a platform to communicate a different type of opinion and information. The reasons for the explosive popularity and growth in blogs are that they made sharing thoughts and ideas easier than ever before. Now that you understand the importance of why you should have a blog for your business to represent your presence online let me tell you my Platform of choice. Ning is the best platform I have ever used for my social platform creation.

Ning makes it really easy for you to create your blog from scratch. It is known as world's largest SaaS platform for creating social networking websites. It is a solid and convenient platform for creating a website, blog or network where you can publish your news updates, videos, pictures, articles, discuss topics in the forum. Ning makes it really easy for you to manage your thousands of followers. They can all interact and continue to grow your network. Ning enables you to serve your community and business in the best way possible.

Unlimited Traffic from Search Engines

Think about that one friend that most of us have if you tell them something they will go out and they will tell everybody that's the way a blog works. There is something called pinging, and what happens is every time you create a new blog or update a blog that you have already created your blog pings these online directories. It pings that you have new information and content and these directories are used by the major search engines to return results when somebody does a search. So, you can see how that works. If you have an updated blog your business will get unlimited continuous traffic from different search engines.

Increase your SEO/ SERP with Blogging

According to Huffington Blogging is huge for your business when it comes to search engine optimization and SERP. All search engines including Google will rank websites that are putting out content with relevant keywords. Every business can have a web site for business but a blog is an extra step to increase your SEO.

So, if you just get the best website builder for small business and put up a website without a blog your website and keywords will kind of just dwindle and die. If you don't have Blog and content google won't even care if you have keywords on your site. Whereas if you are consistently putting out content Google is consistently having to index your website for new keywords

Blogging Increases Your Relevance and Professionalism

Creating a website for your business is necessary for any business if they want to service these days. But in addition to the website blog will make your website look more professional and relevant. So, if someone comes to your website and there is not any current content or it's been a few months since you last blogged. You're going to look less serious and professional about your business. If you're blogging continuously as a whole you're increasing your ability to be seen as an expert.

Blogging Will Help Grow Your Email List

Your business doesn't need just a random, you need to be doing it strategically. Not just posting latest wedding you photographed or what's new at your store but writing blogs that appeal to your audience. If your readers will like your content you will give them a reason to opt in to your email list. We all know that the business profit is in the list so if you are consistently blogging you will grow your email list and then eventually your profit.

This all kind of works together with blogging you are increasing your SEO, traffic, profit and brand value. Your blog can be a super valuable tool for your business. Every single business can earn more money by having a consistently relevant and strategic blog strategy included in their business plan.

Blogging is more than getting backlinks from high authority websites this is such a micro-publishing platform that can change your business drastically. According to the experts, it is the best marketing tool by an order of magnitude your business can ever has. You're the expert in your business, you know your market, you know your clients and that's all you really need for blogging. Your business has a voice, find that voice and put it out there so, everyone else can hear what you have to say about your business!

Holiday Blogging Commences

So it's heading into the end-of-the-year time, and I myself am taking off work until January. Blogging around here will be somewhat irregular, and will feature more recipe lab preps than usual. If there's any big news, I'll certainly post about it, but otherwise, some days there will be stuff here and some days there may not, and posts could appear at any time of the day. Enjoy!

Blogging Off

It takes a lot to make me rethink my place in New York City and even more to make me question my very existence. But, lately, irrational social fears are keeping me up at night. Something is going horribly wrong, and I have finally identified the problem: blogs.

Or, more specifically, the Blogosphere -- a land where the smart get smarter, the connected get even more connected, and the losers go home. The Godfather here is Nick Denton, owner of Gawker Media, a top-tier blog conglomerate named for its flagship, Gawker.com. Launched in January 2003, with Elizabeth Spiers as editor, Gawker made its name by skewering New York media culture -- What are the funny signs up in the bathroom at Condé Nast, the publishing conglomerate that puts out glamorous magazines like Vogue, Vanity Fair, and GQ? Who was spotted going into the Condé Nast building wearing something awful? -- but Spiers lost her indie cred when she moved on to the New York magazine-owned The Kicker and started blogg ing about how she parties with the very people she used to skewer. Other sites under the Gawker umbrella are Wonkette.com (Gawker for D.C.), Gizmodo.com (Gawker for technogeeks), and Fleshbot.com (Gawker for porn).

A step down from Denton's cabal are countless blogs independently run by people sitting in their bedrooms. Here you're less likely to find breaking news about media culture, but you will learn a lot about the drinking patterns of articulate twentysomethings. They're all friends, the bloggers on this level, and they're in a constant state of link-swapping, making it possible to actually click through the Web in a giant circle all day, like Tigger bouncing through the Hundred Acre Wood.

I don't know all of this because I am a blogger. I know it because my friends are, and now everything is bad. And while a lot has been made of the cultural implications of the Blogosphere, I am not convinced that anyone has taken the time to talk openly and honestly about the effects it is having on the day-to-day existence of the world's adult non-bloggers, or what I like to call How Blogs Are Ruining My Life.

1. No one shows up for anything anymore.

There was an innocent time, about a year ago, when I was concerned that the Evite was going to be the death of polite society. But we now live in a world where it is unnecessary for people to attend any social functions whatsoever, so long as they are bloggers. For example: Let's say that I occasionally perform at literary events. I invite my friends to these events, hoping for affirmation and free drinks. How heartbreaking, then, when no one arrives! Phone calls are made: I am sad that you did not come to my event! The bloggers reply, invariably: But I linked to you on my blog! That's just the same as if I showed up in person!

It is not. It is very different.

2. No one tells me anything anymore.

There was a time when my friends and I got together to chat about our lives, a time when any problem could be resolved in the warm light of camaraderie and beer. And then my friends became bloggers. These days, I don't even hear about the stupid stuff that's going on -- "I got a haircut" or "My apartment burned down" -- because the bloggers assume that I have read about it on their blogs.

3. No one has fights anymore.

If there's been a falling-out with my friends, I rarely find out what I did or get a chance to fix things. I just wake up in the morning to find that they are no longer linking to, say, my barely solvent literary magazine. (And then my world allegedly crumbles.)

4. No one invites me to anything anymore.

Bloggers are starting to have parties to which they invite only other bloggers. Secretly, and for research purposes only, I attended one of these parties, a pretty progressive one, as there were four or five of the blog-free in attendance (all of whom admitted, however, to being on Friendster, which is basically a gateway drug). Yet despite this initial multiculturalism, the room immediately broke down according to Blogospheric lines -- conversation centered on issues of blogs and blogging, and about half an hour in, the bloggers stood up and left en masse. Those who remained -- non-bloggers and the party's gracious host -- were left to quietly wonder what they'd done wrong, and worry.

5. They have created a new world order.

My society, that of the media-obsessed mid to late twentysomething, is being divided into a caste system that I believe will soon have the power to control virtually every facet of offline life.

In order of fabulosity, the Blogging Caste System (BCS):

  • Bloggers who live in Williamsburg and work at Condé Nast/are in a band
  • Bloggers who live in Williamsburg and know someone who works at Condé Nast/date someone in a band
  • Bloggers who live elsewhere in Brooklyn but can get to Williamsburg easily, ideally by bicycle
  • Bloggers in general (residents of other parts of the country are fine, so long as those parts are Chicago, L.A., Seattle, or Manhattan)
  • Non-bloggers who work at Condé Nast/are in a band
  • Non-bloggers who went to high school with someone who runs a top-tier blog
  • Non-bloggers who live in Queens and operate barely solvent literary magazines, the literary magazine being, as we all know, the blog of 2000, the old black, so over, etc.
  • 6. Did I mention that blogs are ruining my life?

I am no longer getting work done. I am not sleeping enough or eating enough or editing my barely solvent literary magazine because the aforementioned issues have made it a social imperative that I check up on all the goddamn blogs every single day (and post comments) so that people know I care about their lives/band/Condé Nast.

Additionally, I must Google my own name every week in search of mentions on blogs, in order to know What People Think About Me. This is a dark enterprise, capable of destroying even the staunchest feelings of self-confidence if the search should turn up evidence that, say, someone who actually showed up at my literary event did not enjoy it, or that someone has posted incriminating pictures of me, pictures obviously taken by a cell phone when I wasn't looking. (Remember: It isn't paranoia if they really are blogging about you.)

Listen. My name is Whitney Pastorek, and I do not have a blog. I am not on Friendster, I do not live in Williamsburg, and I do not think Death Cab for Cutie is a particularly great band.

But I exist. I am a good person, a good friend, and my thoughts and opinions have weight and merit. The bloggers do not control me -- they only control each other and massive amounts of bandwidth, which isn't even a real thing, just something made up by Web-hosting companies to charge more! People! If you find yourself on the lower levels of the BCS, join with me in saying NO! NO to letting them diminish our self-worth! NO to letting them drag us out to flash mobs! Turn your faces to the sun! Stand and fight!

Whitney Pastorek is the editor of Pindeldyboz (www.pindeldyboz.com), a barely solvent literary magazine based in Astoria, Queens, that, according to its Web site, has the following aspirations: "The goal of at least one of the editors is to develop Pindeldyboz into an imprint at one of America's large and fine publishing houses, and thus be able to select and publish novel-length works while maintaining the grassroots nature of this publication. An alternative would be an enormous monetary gift from a wealthy benefactor, which would allow all of that to happen, but without the corporate oppression. If anyone has a lead on either of these pipe dreams, please let us know immediately." Reprinted from The Village Voice (Feb. 25, 2004). Subscriptions: $99/yr. (52 issues) from Box 3000, Denville, NJ 07834; www.villagevoice.com

It’s time for the fourth wave of law blogging for real lawyers

Law blogging has come a long way in the last fifteen years. Not all of it has been all good.

Real lawyers engaging on real subjects in an authentic fashion, for many lawyers and law firms, has gone the way of content marketing sold as a billboard by web development companies.

Rather than contributing to discussion on the law and making a sincere effort to make the law more digestible for average folks, we have lawyers buying content from marketers to slap on a website with the only goal being search engine traffic.

My friend, Scott Greenfield, a New York criminal defense lawyer and long time blogger at Simple Justice, is right that blogging takes effort and desire.

Most people just don't have the chops or interest in doing it. Some suck at it. Some aren't nearly as fascinating as they think they are.

Furthermore, law blogging takes being authentic, having a face, being real. In the absence of being real and putting in the effort, lawyers "buy content from Bangalore or walk away," as Greenfield puts it.

He's right. Talking with legal journalist and blogger, Bob Ambrogi, last week, he asked me what I thought the number one reason was for lawyers to stop blogging. Without a doubt, it's because the lawyers don't know what blogging is, or if they do, they won't do it.

A month or two ago, I announced donuts.lexblog.com, a blog where my team and I can share open, honest and authentic thoughts on what we're learning and thinking. God knows a LexBlog website with slick phrases, pictures, colors, testimonials and the like doesn't do a thing to let lawyers and law firms know who we really are.

I'd hope lawyers trying cases, guiding companies and handling the affairs of the wealthy to the downtrodden would want more. Maybe a company whose story is told on an ongoing basis by the people who work about what they are reading, learning, thinking and doing.

Greenfield's correct that I haven't given up on telling lawyers about the virtues of blogging. Engaging in niche discussions so as to get known and build relationships is just too darn good when it comes to being a real lawyer. Making a good living by virtue of who you are, versus the color of our website and the words we bought, is the stuff we went to law school for.

Add to this that real blogging lawyers make the law and lawyers more accessible.

Any lawyer who's tried cases knows that jurors aren't dumb. Give them some straight talk and good information from witnesses they can trust. You may stumble and be unpolished at times, so long as you're honest, sincere and authentic. They'll figure it out, despite the glitz and glamour thrown at them by the lawyers hiding the truth.

Blogging lawyers who share what they're reading and offer their take on a regular basis give consumers, business people, other lawyers and the media a view inside the law. A view these folks don't get from a book or mainstream media. They sure as heck don't get a glimpse of the law from some words sold to a lawyer.

Lawyers become accessible when people trust them. Give people this window into who they can trust as a lawyer. Real blogging does this.

I don't know, maybe I am just giving myself a "you can do it" talk before I take to the streets to try to convince more lawyers to do some real blogging. But I'll take the bone that Greenfield threw me.

I hope Kevin's onto something. I suspect people will tire of cute and insipid quips and will return to the days when actual thought and illuminating commentary were available online. It's time for a fourth wave of blogging where real lawyers write about real stuff for real. But it won't be all donuts.

I can run hit the streets with this "fourth wave of blogging," Scott. Stayed tuned in 2018.

Twitter’s Increase To 280 Characters Perfect For Blogging And Engagement

When I heard that Twitter was considering increasing its character limit from 140 characters, I saw it as a bad thing. A company struggling in the financial community's eyes making changes for the sake of change — not vision.

I also saw an increase in character length as making for a poor user experience.

People would start to use Twitter for more than it is, short quips with a link for reading more. People who don't know how to use social media, often marketers and communication professionals, would broadcast more, believing more characters was more, not less. And with longer tweets, the ability to scroll would be tough as columns on Twitter's home page and lists would be twice as long.

I was wrong. Twitter with 280 character is a better experience — and more valuable for those looking to learn, share, engage, nurture relationships, and build a name. All the stuff smart lawyers and other professionals are after.

Turns out, leading technologist and the inventor of the blog, Dave Winer (@davewiner), was right when he wrote two years ago that Twitter needed to increase its character limit. Not to change for the sake of change, but as a defensive move for self-preservation.

Winer's point was that people don't click on links and keeping the 140 character limit would thus cripple Twitter.

    1. Twitter has had real-time news more or less to itself since inception. Facebook was busy doing something else. Apple had the totally wrong idea of how news worked. Google had good products, Google News and Google Now, but they weren't doing exactly what Twitter does.2. But things have changed. Facebook and Apple are actively pursuing news, and at least in Facebook's case, their product works better than Twitter's. Flipboard has an excellent product, and while they don't appear to be an immediate threat to Twitter, they could be acquired.3. News products that are limited to 140 characters have to use pointers to guide the reader to the rest of the story.4. Key point — the new entrants don't have a 140-char limit.5. If you think that clicking on a link to read a story is not a serious disadvantage, then go ahead and keep the 140-char limit. But Facebook claims to have done the research, and my anecdotal experience confirms this: people don't click links.

Winer was also right that users who loved Twitter, like me, would not be put off by the change, they'd even like it.

It's easy and non-disruptive for Twitter to ease the limit. The people who really love Twitter as-is will barely notice a difference. Except when they want to read more, they can just click a link, and the full story loads immediately, because the full article is already there, it's in the Twitter feed, just hidden at first. This is very simple, imho totally non-controversial stuff. Don't breeze by it, and think the limit is insignificant. It just cripples Twitter in relation to its new competition.

Twitter at 280 is all positive for me.

  • Twitter has become a quasi-blogging medium. I love blogging, as blogging is meant to be a conversation. By referencing something someone else has written and offering my take, I am in effect entering into a conversation with them. At 140 characters that was tough to do. Two hundred eighty characters makes it possible, while still forcing me get to the point.
  • I can now tweet the "money quote" from a story or post, give the attribute to the source by including their Twitter handle, and then share my take. A miniature blog post.
  • Longer tweets foster more engagement in the form of retweets, likes, and replies. The reason is that people get your whole point in one tweet. I agree with Winer that no one clicks on a link to read a story elsewhere. That's why I share an entire blog post on Facebook, not just a link to my post.
  • Retweets, likes, and replies foster engagement. I end up exchanging notes and end up in conversation with these folks on Twitter and elsewhere. Content is not the end goal for a lawyer, content is just the currency for building relationships and a name, largely through engagement.
  • Longer tweets become part of the news cycle on Twitter. The stories you tweet move as more people retweet the items you've tweeted. People share what they know. They don't know what's behind a link. Now they can read the whole "story" on Twitter.
  • Whether you share your own blog posts or someone else's, it doesn't matter. Sharing other's stories and posts is probably better. You are seen as well-read, staying up to speed in your industry, and an intelligence agent by funneling some of the best from the noise.
  • You build fans among those whose stories and posts you share. More people are seeing their name than ever because your tweets are getting viewed more as more people retweet them. Better yet, these fans get a notice via Twitter each time your tweet (with their Twitter handle included as a result of your attribute) is liked, retweeted, or replied to.
  • Winer was right that early leaders, like Twitter, mistakenly think there's something magical about their product, like 140 characters.

…[A] newcomer enters and takes the market because they were wrong about the magic. Users almost always go for new power, esp when it comes to them as performance not complexity. That's all we're talking about here. News stories that load instantly as opposed to news stories that require for a new page to load.

Twitter at 280 characters is only a month old. But I am liking everything about it.

As a lawyer, Twitter has now become more valuable for learning, engagement, relationships, and building a name. With Twitter likely to grow from this character increase, if you are not using Twitter, you'll only find yourself more absent from the discussion and lacking in your online presence.

Wasn't the first time I was dead wrong as to digital publishing, and it won't be the last. Twitter at 280 characters is all good.

How a Struggling Single Mom Turned Beauty Blogging into a Six-Figure Career

In 2014, Ellarie Noel was building a following on Instagram as a beauty influencer when the Atlanta, Georgia-based mother of one was laid off from her job working in business development for a third-party tour-booking company. Although the experience was painful, a trip invitation from Motive Cosmetics helped soften the blow — and gave her hope that she could build a beauty career: She ended up not applying for a new job.

"I just felt like what I was doing was going to lead to something," says the 31-year-old — and she was right. Ellarie, as she's simply known to her followers, now earns an income in the mid-six figures and is one of the biggest beauty celebrities on the Internet, with an Instagram following of 1.3 million, built in part by being one of the first influencers to create tutorial videos on the social-media platform.

Like many in her field, Ellarie has several streams of income, including sponsored posts and collaborations with brands like CoverGirl, which recently featured her as a model for its drugstore displays. Her 6-year-old daughter Zara, nicknamed Yoshidoll, even has a following of her own, and the two of them have gone viral for their mommy-daughter hair tutorials. Here, Ellarie explains how her child got involved in the business, the challenges of being a woman of color in the beauty world, and how that can lead to competition among her fellow influencers.

Ellarie Noel has more than 1.3 million Instagram followers, which she built partly because she was one of the first beauty bloggers to post tutorial videos. She is also known for her tutorials with her daughter, Zara, nicknamed Yoshidoll.

You were working around the clock as you built your brand. When did you realize you were taking on more than you could handle?

I think it was when my daughter, maybe last year, started making comments about how I'm always on my phone or I'm always on the computer. People would come over and she'd be like, "Mom is always on her computer," and it was making me feel really guilty — because I knew that what I was doing was providing for her, but she didn't quite get it. So I pulled back a little bit. I stopped taking as many jobs as I wanted to. She understands it more now. When Christmas rolls around, she's like, "Oh, now I see why you work so hard."

Speaking of your daughter, she plays a part in your videos and she's got her own emerging brand, too — how did she get involved in what you do?

When I started my channel, she would just hop up on my lap, and sometimes I would keep the footage in the video, and people would compliment her and say they loved her hair. I know people have reservations about putting their kids on social media, but she's my proudest accomplishment, so of course I'm going to show her off to everybody.

How does she react when people recognize her?

Sometimes she's super excited — she'll take pictures, she'll ask them if they follow her on Instagram, she'll spell out her name so people can follow her. Even if they don't recognize her, if someone says, "Aww, you're so cute," she'll be like, "Are you following me on Instagram?"

Is she ever resistant about filming videos? She's 6 — she must get tired or cranky.

Honestly for a 6-year-old she has her own little work ethic. I ask her every day if she wants to stop doing videos — she's like, "No, how will people be able to see me on TV? I can't do that to my fans."

    Advertisement - Continue Reading Below

Mom shaming can be particularly bad on social media. Do you get any haters or trolls?

If it's a video that went viral and got like maybe over a million views on my page, I'll get a lot of random people and I usually don't say anything back unless it's a video with me and my daughter. I know that some people say stuff just to say it. And even if they do believe that I shouldn't have my daughter up there, that's a decision they can make when they have their own children.

You tweeted a while back that you had identity issues about your hair and you mentioned your daughter does too. What issues are those?

[My sister's] hair is like my daughter's — it can get really fine and straight, or, if she washes it, it gets really curly and long. I didn't even really know my core texture — my hair had been permed since I was in elementary school. But still even with perms I didn't feel like it looked as beautiful as hers.

I stopped getting perms about a year and change ago, and my daughter kind of inspired me to. She did have a little period when her best friend had really straight hair, and she felt she wanted smooth hair and she wanted lighter skin, and I'm like, "Oh no. I know this happens sometimes, but what do I do?" On her Instagram page, I asked her followers to take pictures [and] write comments about how beautiful she is to boost her self-esteem a little bit. As soon as she read all those things, I was like, "So what did you learn?" She was like, "I learned that I love my hair, and my hair is beautiful, and that there are people who want their hair to be like mine."

Ellarie says working in the beauty industry can be challenging, because brands tend to work with few women of color.

    @Ellarie

What are some other challenges of being a woman of color working in the beauty world?

It's just very minimal as far as how we're represented. You'll scroll pages and pages [on Instagram] of people that are lighter-complected. And you'll see maybe one. It can be discouraging, but I feel like if I let it discourage me earlier on I probably wouldn't have even done this.

Our categories are a little bit more competitive, because brands don't tend to work with all of us. I just feel like a brand will choose one and then have that one person speak for the whole shade range. It's frustrating at times, especially because there's a lot of brown girls, women of color, who have different undertones, different skin types, different everything.

Have you ever felt like a brand has selected you to speak for an entire shade range?

Yeah. It's obviously a blessing to be invited anywhere or work with these great brands, but I don't want to feel like the token. I would like to see more people like me represented.

    Advertisement - Continue Reading Below

Does this ever cause friction among beauty influencers who are women of color?

I don't feel like women of color should feel like we're competing against each other. I wish we could come together more, collab more, bring each other up more, but the brands kind of make it that way. I just feel like there's room for everybody.

Are you seeing any signs that the industry's becoming more inclusive? Rihanna recently launched Fenty, a super inclusive line of 40 foundation shades, and all those photos went viral of the darker ones out of stock.

It's more than just having a shade. It's your whole branding and promotion including everybody and not just [the] three girls that you feel like are your demographic. Even if a company [does] have a wide range that represents us, if their promotion for it [doesn't] include us, we're still not going to know. For Fenty, to come out on your first go with 40 shades, and then your promo reel has redheads and blondes and dark-skinned women — anybody who's anybody is going to feel like, "Oh, well that girl looks like me — I want to buy her stuff," because she's showing that she represents all girls. And I feel like if all makeup brands did that, everything would be selling off the shelves.
