You guys, I got *another award* for this whole blogging thing!

Tonight at the annual business meeting of the Society for American Archaeology, I received the Award for Excellence in Public Education.

Per the conference program:

Dr. Kristina Killgrove has earned the SAA's Award for Excellence in Public Education for her exemplary contributions to public education and service to the profession. Dr. Killgrove's masterful contributions to writing archaeologically for the general public have included her own website as well as at Forbes.com and at Mental Floss, with some online compositions receiving millions of views. She has produced an extensive corpus of published work on how archaeology, anthropology, and science intersect with our daily lives, as well as having excelled as a teacher and scholar. In particular, she has successfully entered into the public fray on ethical issues related to the treatment of human remains and how nonrenewable archaeological resources can be exploited by television and looting. Finally, her online writing has served as a litmus test for the efficacy of how archaeologists can serve as barometers of the "truth," and how we can actively work against t he dissemination of falsehoods like Dr. Ben Carson's patently untrue claim that the Egyptian pyramids were used to store grain. For her storytelling, advocacy, and public outreach, we are proud to nominate Dr. Killgrove for this award. The spiffy plaque I got is in the upper right. And here's what I looked like receiving it from outgoing SAA president Diane Gifford-Gonzalez... (I'm sure the professional photographer got a better pic, but this was helpfully snapped by Lynne Goldstein):

Last time I got an award for my outreach, I thanked a whole bunch of people. This time is no different. In addition to the awards committee, I would like to thank Megan Perry for nominating me and Lynne Goldstein and Jane Buikstra for writing letters of support. Of course, I appreciate the opportunities that my editors Alex Knapp and Forbes and Jen Pinkowski at mental_floss have given me in terms of a platform to write about why the past is relevant to the present. Thanks to all of my colleagues who have let me cover their latest article or discovery, given me comments on my pieces, and allowed me to interview them.

And last but definitely not least, thanks to all my readers here, at Forbes, and at mental_floss, and my peeps on Twitter and the PbO Facebook page! If you keep reading, I'll keep writing!

Let’s Keep Blogging Fun

I've recently been reading some posts and messages on Facebook where people are asking for advice because blogging has got to the stage of stressing them out and/or making them feel guilty. I've written about this subject before, and know exactly how these bloggers are feeling, having been through the whole blogging 'feeling guilty' trip, myself.

One of the reasons why I signed up to WordPress and created my blog was because I thought blogging would be fun. One year in and I found myself becoming very stressed and feeling guilty because I wasn't able to keep up with reading all the new blog posts being published by the bloggers I was following. Some days, I was finding myself doing little else but reading and leaving comments on blog posts. Heck, some of the bloggers I was following were publishing more than a few blog posts a day, and I soon found myself apologising to people for not reading their posts or for not being on WordPress 24 hours a day! Then it struck me that I was not doing the main thing that I'd come here to do – to write!

Now, although I do possess a few super-powers, I'm afraid that one of them is not being able to read every single new blog post from bloggers whom I follow. I began to see this as a problem, and my blog as a monster that was doing everything it could to make me want to fight it. Then, one morning, I woke up, switched on my computer and got that horrible feeling I would get when I didn't want to go to school or go to work. I soon realised that I had two choices about blogging. Either I gave it up, or I had to change the blogger I had become.

It didn't me take long in making my choice. After all, I'd created my blog so that I could write and share my thoughts with anybody who stopped by and wanted to listen to what I had to say. I decreased my reading time and began to write more. I took some time to make a list of the people who were commenting on my blog posts and who were sharing my posts on social media. I stopped following back every single blogger who followed my blog. If they didn't have an 'about me' page, so I could find out more of who they were, or they blogged about subjects that did not interest me, then I passed on by.

As time went on, I began to unfollow bloggers whose blogs changed into material I didn't find interesting anymore. I unfollowed some bloggers who continued to fail to or respond to questions or acknowledge comments other bloggers and I were leaving on posts. I didn't feel guilty about this because it was freeing up time for me; time which I could either spend writing or supporting those bloggers who took the time to read and comment on my posts.

If you find yourself in a situation where blogging is making you feel guilty and/or stressing you out, then you need to face the questions I was asking myself. I'm afraid there's no magic answer. What worked for me may not work for you but, whatever you do, ensure you do all you can to make blogging fun again. Isn't that why you came here? Take control of both your blog and your blogging habits and stop feeling guilty about not reading and commenting on every single blog post or unfollowing blogs that you no longer have any interest in. Sure, you may lose some followers along the way (don't we all?), but it's not going to finish you off as a blogger. In fact, most of those that do unfollow you probably don't comment or read you blog posts anyway, so it's no big deal (unless your only interest is as a 'follower' hunter). If like me, you decide to stay (and I hope you do), the passion you had for coming here in the first instance will come back and put you on the r ight blogging track.

Have you ever found yourself feeling guilty or stressed out because of blogging? Are you somebody who keeps apologising because you've not been able to spend as much time as you like reading and commenting on posts? What did you do to get over feeling guilty or stressed out by blogging? Leave me a comment and join in the debate.

Blogging Series! How and When I Started My Blog

Today I am starting a new series all about blogging. These posts will be everything about my blog and blogging in general from how I started, what I love and hate about blogging, tips for starting your blog, etc. If you have specific questions be sure to leave them in the comments! To kick off this series I thought I would share how, when, and why I started my blog! And details in between. Soo here we go!

In 2010 I was in cosmetology school in Utah. I heard about a service trip to Fiji and instantly knew I wanted to go. I was extremely frugal in high school and had saved up quite a bit doing lifeguarding and swim lessons. I used it for college expenses but still had some left and decided to use it on this trip. I took a break from school, got my passport, and booked my plane tickets. I am not good at staying in touch so I knew the only way I could share photos with each family member and friend would be if I shared them on a blog. My very first blog post was, here, counting down the days til I was going to Fiji.

When I got back I kept blogging here and there. Mostly thoughts and photos I found inspirational (this was before pinterest! So think of my blog at this time as my pinterest board & journal). I always loved taking photos, documenting, and writing in a journal so blogging was really fun for me. Slowly I started blogging more and more – mostly just photos from my point and shoot camera. I would post photos just as I do now… whatever I did that week. By now more people were reading my blog — just through word of mouth. I am not sure word of mouth was even a good thing since a lot of people were making fun of my blog ha! Either way I was getting more page views and really loved to get comments from people. Girls started asking what I was wearing and how I did my hair. So I started linking to what I wore in that post and occasionally did a hair tutorial to show people how I styled my hair. These tutorials I just filmed on my laptop in my poorly lit apartment room (hi, literally ZERO natural light when I filmed these lol! I had a blanket over the window. Why? I do not remember). Example, here.

I one day decided I wanted better photos and asked my dad if I could borrow his digital camera. He let me bring it up to college with me. I would get dressed, drive somewhere totally random (anywhere that no one would be! The top of a parking garage in Provo was a regular spot for me ha). I put my camera on top of my car and did self timer.

Eventually I got sick of running into frame – realizing I actually wasn't in frame – repeat. So I asked my sister to take my photos for me and I would pay her in the form of a McDonalds drive through after. Oh and I always used coupons. And I am pretty sure we ONLY ordered off the dollar menu haha 🙂 Here and here are some shoots I did with her in 2011. And occasionally I would find a photographer to take them like in this shoot here.

I have always loved styling hair but because of hair school I became even more interested in it. My first week in hair school.. they have you divided up into groups depending on when you started. I was in the most recent group.. which in every other girl's mind meant you were the silly freshman and they were the cool senior. (it felt like high school). They had all of the groups together in one room for a hair styling competition. They chose me as the first place winner and the older girls weren't too happy about it 😉 It made me want to win again and I got super into using my hair extensions to do really big and dramatic braids. I would do some really cool styles at home and would take selfies of these and share them on my blog. They were poor quality and had way too many filters but around this same time pinterest came around. Braids were getting really popular and some of my photos ended up getting shared a lot and I started growing.

After hair school I went back to school in Utah for a couple semesters. All of this was before blogging was big (or selfies for that matter and I posted a lot of hair selfies!) so I did get made fun of a lot. Not only by people in my college town but by best friends, cousins, etc. I kept going – not because I had any intentions of making money (because I had zero idea I would ever make money blogging) but because I enjoyed it.

When I started dating David he was really supportive of my blog from day one. A lot of his friends poked fun at it (all have apologized!) but I remember feeling so silly because of course I want my boyfriend's friends to like me! He would always roll his eyes at comments and say, "who needs them, your blog is amazing – keep doing you."

When we got married he started taking photos for me and I started posting more frequently. He started shadowing photographers and learning more about photography (mostly just by experience and playing around with settings). If you go through archives you can see our blog get better and better with photography as he learned more and more! Really proud of how far he has come 🙂

The blog since then has just slowly grown on its own and changes as our life changes! I have always wanted it to be a reflection of my actual life and sound as if I was actually talking to you guys and telling you what's up in our lives.

Thanks to all who have supported and cheered me on through the years. I feel so lucky to have such supportive readers. You guys always put a smile on my face! Thank you thank you.

What else do you guys want to know about blogging?!?!?

Dallas Cowboys News & Notes: Cowboys 'All In' On Defense For NFL Draft?

Cowboys Hope Damontre Moore Can Develop Into "Irving-Type" Contributor - Rob Phillips, Dallas CowboysThey do think their recent free-agent signing has the talent to compete for a spot in Rod Marinelli's rotation and perhaps develop into a regular contributor.

"He's a piece that comes in here and competes, no different than David Irving did two years ago," Cowboys executive vice president Stephen Jones said from the NFL Annual Meeting in Phoenix. "And you hope that he's got some of those Irving-type qualities.

"You know, David's still got a long ways to go. He made some big plays down the stretch for us. He's certainly shown that his ceiling is higher than most. And I think Damontre would fit in that category. He's certainly got some upside but he's got a lot of work to do before you can say we're penciling that in."

High-priced backup QBs need not apply: Cowboys going with Kellen Moore - Todd Archer, ESPN

The Cowboys will stick with Kellen Moore as their backup quarterback; he has spent a long time with coordinator Scott Linehan and knows the offense.

"All those older veteran guys, all they have ever done is prove they can't be the guy," Stephen Jones, the Cowboys' executive vice president, told the Star Telegram. "Kellen has never had the chance to prove he shouldn't be the guy."

NFL Draft 2017 Profile: Cornerback Marlon Humphrey - Joseph.Hatz,  Blogging The Boys

A closer look at a potential 2017 draft pick for the Cowboys, cornerback Marlon Humphrey.

Pros: Prototypical size, length and speed for today's NFL cornerback. Possibly the best cornerback in the draft class in run support, and one of the best prospects in that regard in recent memory. Very physical tackler who is not afraid to take on offensive linemen or throw his body around.

Stephen Jones says Cowboys are counting on Jaylon Smith to play - Clarence Hill, The Star-Telegram

The Cowboys are counting on linebacker Jaylon Smith to be a major contributor in 2017 even though he is still wearing a brace for drop foot.

"And you don't know how long he is going to have to have the brace," Jones said. "Our guys are getting real comfortable that he can be a great contributor with a brace. But he may not have the brace. But our guys feel comfortable after working with him that he can play with the brace. I'm not so sure he will have to play with the brace. It's not a given. We will see."

Cowboys feel Chaz Green 'has a great opportunity' to win starting RT job - David Moore,  SportsDayThe Cowboys hope Chaz Green can step in and start at right tackle. The addition of Byron Bell in free agency is meant to push him.

"Obviously we've got a guy we drafted in the third round, Chaz Green, who we feel like has a great opportunity to win that job," executive vice president Stephen Jones said. "But he needs to be pushed. It's going to be a competitive situation."

Scouting Report: New Signing Byron Bell Is Powerful, Versatile, Savvy - Bryan Broaddus,  Dallas CowboysThe Cowboys quietly signed a free agent offensive tackle last week and they may have found somebody with true ability.

Bell is not the same caliber athlete as Doug Free, but a much more imposing player from the strength and power aspect. I would not play him at left tackle, but I'd surely consider him on the right side or at guard -- which would allow them to feel better about moving La'el Collins outside.

Dallas Cowboys' draft focus is looking like defense only - Todd Archer, ESPNAre the Cowboys about to go 'all in' on the defensive side of the ball with the 2017 NFL Draft?

"We think some of the best depth in the draft is the defensive line and the secondary, in our view," executive vice president Stephen Jones told reporters from the owners meetings in Arizona on Sunday. "Now let me be real clear, if a great offensive player shows up that's of great value to us, that doesn't mean we aren't going to pick an offensive player, but our focus is on defense."

NFL Power Rankings: Have The Giants Supplanted The Cowboys In NFC East? - Dave Halprin, Blogging The BoysHow others see the Cowboys are reflected in some meaningless, but fun, power rankings.

This again has the smell of beat writers who think the Cowboys lost everything when free agency happened. They didn't bother to notice the Cowboys either signed some help, or they have some players in-house that could help mitigate some of what they lost. I guess it's a testament to how good everybody thinks the Cowboys are that they are rated in the Top 10 even though everyone thinks their offseason has been a catastrophe.

Cowboys VP Stephen Jones hopes says draft could help overcome free agency losses - Clarence Hill, The Star-TelegramStephen Jones adds that many of the departing defensive players weren't difference-makers anyway, and that their losses provide an opportunity to improve through the draft.

"I would agree with that," Jones said about the step back in free agency. "What we hope to do is increase our talent on defense through the draft."

Broncos' John Elway: Tony Romo 'never came up' during recent meetings with Cowboys' Stephen Jones - SportsDayWe're nearing three weeks since the NFL's free agency period kicked off, and Tony Romo remains on the Dallas Cowboys' roster. What gives?

"We've been here all week and his name never came up," Elway told Klis.

The 2017 BTB Mock Draft Challenge: Create Your Own Dallas Cowboys Mock Draft

Do you have a little time to spare for some mock draft fun on a lazy Saturday morning? If so, you're in luck, because BTB has got a challenge for you: Create a Dallas Cowboys Mock Draft.

This is the second time this year we're doing this exercise, after doing our first one in early February. So go ahead, create your mock draft for the Dallas Cowboys and submit it for a peer review by your fellow Blogging The Boys members. The BTB community will hand out recommendations for those mocks they like the most, and the winners will be put to a final vote some time over the next two weeks.

But wait. There are rules, and the rules are different than they were in our previous challenges, though you still can't just pick whatever players you like.

The Rules

  • We will use the Drafttek Big Board March 12, 2017 as the basis for all mock drafts. We will assume that all draft-eligible players will be available at exactly the spot Drafttek has them in. You don't like where Drafttek has a player ranked? Go complain to someone who cares.
  • Dallas currently owns seven picks in the NFL draft, numbers 28, 60, 92, 133, 211, 226, and 246.
  • NEW RULE: To account for the vagaries of the draft and the inaccuracies inherent in draft boards, you are allowed to pick up to five spots higher than the picks the Cowboys own. That means you can use your 28th pick to pick any player ranked 23rd or lower on the Drafttek big board. Your 60th pick can get you any player ranked 55th or lower, and so on.
  • NEW RULE: Starting in the third round, you can designate one player as a "fallen" prospect. This is a player that will fall a maximum of 20 spots from their current ranking on the big board. That means you could use your 92nd pick to draft a player ranked 72nd or lower, or you could use your 133rd pick to draft a player ranked 113th, and so on. But you can only use the "fallen" player designation once in your draft.
  • You are allowed only one trade-down. The value you give up in the trade-down must be equal to or greater than the value you receive, e.g. your 28th (660 pts) pick could get you Arizona's 45th and 77th picks (450+205=655 pts).
  • You can find the full 2017 NFL draft order here in case you're looking for a team to trade with. Use this handy draft pick value calculator and the draft value chart immediately below it, it will make this exercise a lot easier.
  • Mocks that do not meet the criteria outlined above will be deleted. Nobody wants to waste their time on mocks that don't fit the bill.
  • Post your mock in the comments section below. As you read through the mocks other BTB members have posted, look for mocks that you like and recommend them (just press rec at the bottom of the comment box). And don't be stingy with your rec's. It's more fun for everybody involved if we have a high rec' count.

The best mocks will be featured on the front page in some form over the next two weeks or so, so put some thought into your mock. And give us a rationale for your picks - mocks that have some extra content beyond a simple list of nine player names usually get more rec's, are more fun to read, and will be treated preferentially as I pick the best mocks for the front page post.

To get this challenge started, I'll submit the following mock:

Rd 1: 28 (33) Gareon Conley, CB, Ohio State: The "other" Ohio State CB opposite Marshon Lattimore "allowed just 14 receptions for 159 yards, and an NFL passer rating of 14.0, best in the nation, on throws into his coverage in 2016," Pro Football Focus writes. That's good enough to make him my top pick.

Rd 2: 60 (61) Marcus Williams, S, Utah: I'll let Rob Rang of CBS Sports do the honors on this supremely athletic safety:

The NFL loves playmakers and few have proven better on the defensive side of the ball in this area than Williams, who created 18 turnovers (11 interceptions, four forced fumbles and three fumble recoveries) over the past three seasons for a Utah defense loaded with next level prospects.

COMPARES TO: Ha Ha Clinton-Dix, Green Bay Packers: Don't laugh, while Williams is approximately 10 pounds lighter than the Packers' standout free safety, he possesses a similar combination of instincts, soft hands and reliable open-field tackling skills.

Rd 3: 92 (91) Tanoh Kpassagnon, DE, Villanova: Kpassagnon has become a bit of a pet cat here on BTB, but there's no denying he is a unique athlete, even if he is still very raw. But that's what was said about Jason Pierre-Paul back in the day as well. CBS Sports explains:

Comparing Kpassagnon to Pierre-Paul, a two-time Pro Bowler, might seem like hyperbole but he too was quite raw as a one-year starter out of South Florida back in 2010. Kpassagnon has a long ways to go before warranting this comparison but few - even in the NFL - possess his combination of length and explosiveness.

Rd 4: 133 (125) FALLING: Sidney Jones, CB, Washington: The proper place to take injured prospects with a first-round pedigree is the fourth round, not the second round.

Rd 6: 211 (233) Jon Toth, C, Kentucky: Toth has played every position on the Kentcky's O-line and could provide the Cowboys with an inside swing guy who can be an effective backup at center for Travis Frederick. Lance Zierlein of NFL.com with the lowdown:

Toth is a tough, four-year starter. Will appeal to teams looking for centers who can operate in a power-based rushing scheme. While he's better in a phone booth than on the move, he understands his limitations and does a good job of staying within himself. He's not the best athlete at the position but his size, arm length, strength and consistency should outweigh that on the next level. Toth has the traits and ability to be an eventual starter in the NFL.

Rd 7: 226 (272) Robert Davis, WR, Georgia State. The Cowboys take a flyer on an athletic freak.

Rd 7: 246 (343) Chris Carson, RB, Oklahoma State. The Cowboys scouts are still pissed they lost Darius Jackson. Now they get a guy who compares to DeMarco Murray and Adrian Peterson and are happy again.

    Your turn.

How to Organize and Plan Your Business Blog Posts FTW

Publishing blog posts days in and days out for years, you'll soon learn that nothing beats a good planning and organizing.  It's probably fun publishing blog posts whenever you like it, but if you juggle your business blogging endeavor with other responsibilities, then you'll soon see that there are things that are more urgent than updating your blogs – especially when blogging is your side hustle, or even a hobby.

Read on if you need some practical tips.

    Business blogging

Blogging when inspiration hits you is nice, but…

… planning and organizing are great ideas if you want to take full advantage of the time you have on your hands – which you are likely to be deprived of when you have a job, kids to care, main hustle to run, and so on.

Though indeed writing is in general activity that requires inspiration and the spark of the imagination, still, this doesn't exclude organizing and planning your subjects. Thankfully, there are lots of tips and tricks that can help you plan blog posts and be more efficient.

    Business blog post planning tips

Here are some practical tips so that you can utilize your time and effort better.

    1. Use WordPress Editorial Calendar

This is a useful plugin that adds a calendar on the backend of your website so that you can see all the posts in a month with one click. Moreover, you can create a column of post ideas on the right, and you can drag posts from day to day. The great thing is that it saves time since you can start writing from the calendar.

    2. Use a Notepad

Though it may seem a little old-fashioned, a notepad is always handy. If you don't like a physical paper one, you can have a digital one on your phone or tablet, but one this is certain: it is really helpful to have one. The more you suggest yourself to think about a particular subject, the easier topics for blog posts will come to your mind. Plus you never know when inspiration is going to hit you, so it's better always to have something handy to jot down ideas.

    3. Know your subject matter – and stick to it

This rule is not as strict, but it is important to know what you are writing about. You may have a varied array of topics, but you should at least try to stay on track. Keep your variety on the blog, but at the same time try to stick to general themes (e.g.: business, travel, creativity, useful tips, etc.). In business blogging, consistency is the key.

    4. Analyze your blog audience's visit patterns

Use Google Analytics, for example, or any other tool to find out when most people are visiting your blog. Keep in mind the day and the time and try to publish new content then, to attract more visitors. It's okay if you can't publish or write exactly then, you can just schedule posts ahead of time, so this will allow for an even better organization and planning.

    Business collaboration

One last thing: Communicate and get feedback

Don't be afraid to share your ideas! Many people are scared that if they share their ideas, their blog will not be successful anymore or they will receive criticism. It's not a bad thing to receive feedback, and it's even more helpful to have friends that can improve and work further on your ideas. Ask them for help or simply for an opinion, and you might see things in a different light than you had until now.

    Now it's your turn

Are you blogging for your business? If so, please share your tips on how to organize and plan for your blog post publishing.

Cowboys News: Why Tony Romo Situation Is Holding NFL's QB Market Hostage

Cowboys and Tony Romo are holding the QB market hostage - Jonathan Lehman, New York Post

The Dallas Cowboys are playing the QB market to their advantage with how the Tony Romo situation is playing out. Ramifications are being felt around the league, whether other teams want to admit it or not.

The Cowboys' patient manipulation of what remains of the NFL quarterback market has put Romo in a bizarre status and has left a host of big-name Opening Day starters from last season — Jay Cutler, Ryan Fitzpatrick and Robert Griffin III — to wait helplessly for the dust to settle.

Nothing is going to happen quickly unless Jerry Jones and Tony Romo want it to.

NFL officials given more leeway on 'Brice Butler rule' - Kevin Boilard, CBS News

It is a little bit too late for the liking of Cowboys fans, but the NFL has decided to allow a little more leeway on the rule regarding "Illegally entering the huddle". Brice Butler received an ill-timed unsportsmanlike conduct call for this 'offense' during last season's playoff game against the Green Bay Packers.

The rule is designed to prevent the offense from unfairly deceiving the defense with odd mixes of personnel in the huddle. It did not seem as though this was Butler's intention against the Packers last year, as his attention was turned to the sideline the whole time and the Cowboys didn't form a distinct huddle before he exited the field.

It appears that the league is going to allow the officials to use common sense in the decision about enforcing the rule or giving a warning to the team.

Now if they can just figure out what a catch looks like.

Star Evaluation: After Stellar Rookie Year, Brown Big Part of 2017 CB Plans - Nick Eatman, DallasCowboys.com

Anthony Brown made a splash in Dallas in 2016 and his impact has some bearing on the strategy the front office took with the defensive backs who were eligible for free agency this offseason.

With Brown, the Cowboys loved his speed that was clocked as a high as 4.29. But there's no way they knew Brown would become a reliable corner on defense that not only used his speed, but was a tough tackler not afraid to mix it up in the run game. Brown not only served as the Cowboys' third corner for most of the season, but he ranked fourth among defensive players in total snaps.

To say they were impressed with the performance of the sixth round selection is an understatement. Now the team will look for him to progress during his sophomore season as he moves into a bigger role in the defense. If Brown continues to develop, don't be shocked to see him move into a starting role at some point this fall.

Dallas Cowboys Draft 2017: The Strategy Is Likely A Secondary Overhaul - Michael Sisemore, Blogging The Boys

It may be a case of need meeting opportunity, or maybe this has been in the mind of the front office for a while, but the move to revamp the secondary looks a lot like some similar strategy used with the offensive line a few seasons back. Dallas is going for a full overhaul.

The reality is that Carr had one interception in the past three seasons. Claiborne had four for his career which is not what you expect from a sixth-overall pick. Barry Church cost too much and Dallas didn't seem interested at all in keeping Wilcox. Consider that the deals that Claiborne and Carr signed with their new teams weren't overly expensive and you can say that the Cowboys weren't too bothered by letting them go. They've wanted to upgrade their secondary for a while and now they get that opportunity.

My BTB colleague hits the nail on the head with this one, or at least he is following my line of thought and beat me to putting the story together.

VIDEO: Scandrick defends Cowboys fans, Elliot [sic] to Stephen A. - ESPN

The worldwide leader doesn't know how to spell Elliott. Regardless, this one is for you, Cowboys fans. Cornerback Orlando Scandrick took a stand to support the fanbase on ESPN. Stephen A. might find us delusional and obnoxious, but Orlando was more than happy to set him straight.

It is nice to see the love returned, and also to see one of the Cowboys leaders handle the situation with class.

I'd be surprised if Jaylon Smith is ready to go; Church will be missed in big way - Matt Mosley, Dallas Morning News

Mosley hit on a variety of topics posed by fans in this piece, including the possibility of drafting another offensive lineman in the opening round to fill Doug Free's cleats. His answers are sure to give us plenty of food for thought. Here's his titular take on Jaylon Smith.

And to your point about taking players with risks, we'll see where Jaylon Smith is this season. I just don't quite have the optimism about him that others do. The Cowboys medical folks have been very cautious in talking about him. Dr. Jones seems to think he'll be fine. He was a tremendous player at Notre Dame. He's the x-factor coming into this season. I'd be surprised if he's ready to go.

Charles Barkley on Zeke Elliott: 'This Fool Down Here in Dallas' - Newy Scruggs, NBCDFW

Charles Barkley is not one to hide his feelings, and he expresses himself in a matter of fact way. I was never a fan of his game, but I do like the man's style and the way he sums up the latest antics by the Cowboys running back match exactly what I would say to Zeke if he was my son.

Barkley told the Jim Rome Show, "This fool down here in Dallas…man, you know this kids is so great at football. He already has this domestic thing at Ohio State. Now he's pulling down girls shirts at Mardi Gras. Dude-this is professional football. This ain't Ohio State. Grow up and be a man. It just drives me crazy when I see some of this stuff these kids do."

Throwback: DCC 2017 Calendar Shoot - Dallas Cowboys.com

I am not the typical red-blooded football fan, but that certainly does not mean that I don't realize that a majority of the BTB readership will enjoy this video clip from the mothership.

I am certain that this one will make your Friday a little more enjoyable.

Friday blogging… or lack of it

It seems the last few Friday's I've been lax on posting. Some of that is just by Friday I'm frantically trying to complete all my client deliverables before the weekend. The rest of it is by Friday I'm just tired. Today had the added complication of watching the Trumpcare debate and following how (and how soon) it would affect my company if it passed.

That's been a bit distracting, along with the other stuff I posted about yesterday. I wish everyone a great weekend.

2017 NCAA Tournament Sweet Sixteen Thursday Viewing Guide

Not near a TV? You can stream each game on NCAA March Madness Live.

    All times are Eastern.

    Midwest Regional

CBS will air both games with Kevin Harlan (play-by-play), Reggie Miller and Dan Bonner (commentary), and Dana Jacobson (reporting) on the call.

    No. 7 Michigan Wolverines (26-11)* vs. No. 3 Oregon Ducks (31-5), 7:09 p.m.No. 4 Purdue Boilermakers (27-7) vs. No. 1 Kansas Jayhawks (30-4), approx. 9:39 p.m.

Once again, Michigan finds itself in one of the most attractive matchups of a 2017 NCAA Tournament round, as there should be plenty of points when the Wolverines take on the potent Ducks. The nightcap pairs two balanced squads in Kansas and Purdue, along with two national player of the year candidates — the Jayhawks' point guard Frank Mason and Boilermaker forward Caleb Swanigan. KU should have a sizable advantage, however, as they'll be playing in their de facto secondary home arena in Kansas City.

    West Regional

TBS will air both games with Brian Anderson (play-by-play), Chris Webber (commentary), and Lewis Johnson (reporting) on the call.

    No. 4 West Virginia Mountaineers (28-8) vs. No. 1 Gonzaga Bulldogs (34-1)*, 7:39 p.m.No. 11 Xavier Musketeers (23-13) vs. No. 2 Arizona Wildcats (32-4)*, approx. 10:09 p.m.

While you'd expect Gonzaga to struggle a bit against West Virginia's pressing defense, the Bulldogs have recent success against the Mountaineers. The Bulldogs won a pair of early season meetings with Bob Huggins' squad in 2012-13 and 2013-14, so Mark Few knows how to prepare for the matchup. The second game in San José sees Sean Miller meet his former program at this stage for the second time in three years. Back in 2015, Arizona defeated Xavier by eight, 68-60, at the Staples Center in Los Angeles. It wouldn't surprise me if the Wildcats ended the Musketeers' surprising run by a similar score tonight.
