Mumbai: Local trains on Harbour line hit due to derailment, commuters face torrid time

Mumbai, Feb 27: Rail services on Mumbai's Harbour line were affected early on Monday morning as three wagons and brake van of a goods train derailed between Ravli and Kurla on Down Harbour Line. The restoration work is currently underway while the railway administration has allowed the suburban commuters to use the mainline and trans-harbour services. Suburban trains services are running between Kurla and Panvel without any disruption. As per recent tweets, Railways have requested BEST to run additional buses from Kurla towards CST to help stranded commuters. BEST is running additional buses from Kurla/Vadala towards CST and Vashi-CST.

Thousands of Harbour line commuters in Mumbai had a torrid time on Monday after the delay in train schedule due to derailment. The Harbour line trains were running between Kurla-Panvel and not beyond Kurla. CST bound trains from Panvel are only running till Kurla due to the derailment while trains between CST and Andheri were on time. Trans-harbour services between Thane-Panvel, Thane-Vashi railway services were functioning late that the scheduled time.  The railways have allowed the suburban commuters to use the mainline and trans-harbour services till normal services on harbour line are restored.

Taking to micro-blogging site Twitter, the Central Railways in a series of tweets mentioned, "Mainline & Transharbour trains are running. Harbour line passengers are permitted to travel via Transharbour & Main line". It informed in tweets that 6 additional emu rakes have been pressed in service on CST-Andheri /Kurla, Panvel-Vashi/Thane & Kurla-Panvel sections.

As per reports, this is a second major disruption on Harbour line in a weeks time. Last week, a Vashi – Vadala Up local was detained on near Raoli junction during peak hours. The train jumped a signal, a situation called Signal Passed At Danger (SPAD) leading to disruption of train services.
