Illinois broadcasting students will get the chance to do play-by-play, blogging and more for the South Bend Cubs this season

CHICAGO — Illinois broadcasting students will get the chance to do play-by-play, blogging and more for the South Bend Cubs this season.

The class A minor league Chicago Cubs affiliate announced a multi-year deal Thursday with the Illinois Media School. The partnership is in conjunction with the school's new Sports Broadcasting Emphasis Program. That program begins April 11.

South Bend Cubs Team President Joe Hart says it's "a great opportunity not only for our team, but for the students in this program."

IMS Chicago Director Bob Hiller says it will give students more opportunities for internships and potential careers.

In addition to field reporting and game day activities, students will help produce a weekly one-hour show on the team and the minor league system.

The school has locations in Chicago and Lombard.
