Twitter modifies 140-character limit, gives a bit more space to tweet!

Twitter, the micro blogging social media network, has announced that it would be relaxing some restrictions on "tweets" to allow users to maximize use of the platform.

The character limit for Tweets was originally set to be able to include a user's name and still fit within the 160-character SMS messaging format used for mobile phones. While you can also Retweet a reply if you want to see it more broadly.

As part of the development, the microblogging platform said that photos, videos and other media won't count toward Twitter's 140-character limit.

Media attachments. Photos, GIFs, videos, polls, and other media attachments will no longer count towards the limit.

Also on the Twitter agenda is a feature that enables retweet button on your own tweets. Twitter is giving users more room to express themselves.

Twitter also wants to make sure you can share your own tweets a bit easier, and is making it possible to retweet and Quote Tweet yourself with these upcoming changes. This is great news if you're always tweeting back and forth with someone that has a ridiculously long Twitter username.

Twitter's users have stayed stagnant at around 300 million the past two years.

Instead, those posts Twitter believed to be of interest to users based on their activity are pushed to the top of the timeline.

This change will allow users to give more information in their tweets, without worrying about having to remove or use multiple tweets to get their point across.

However, these reaction gifs aren't much if the person your sending them to has no idea of the context, but thankfully that's all about to change as certain things will no longer count in the 140 character limit.

Twitter has not said when these changes will be available, just that it will be "in the coming months".

All these changes sound well and good, but users should be well aware of the fact that these changes will be rolled out in the coming few months and not immediately.
