Cowboys News: Why Cowboys "Can't Wait" To Play The Redskins

Latest Cowboys headlines: Dez Bryant says he 'can't wait' to face Josh Norman; Washington game could be time for Alfred Morris to shine; why Cowboys head to Washington at right time.

Dez Bryant says he 'can't wait' to face new Redskins star Josh Norman - Nunzio Ingrassia, FoxsportsNorman is unlikely to shadow Bryant, as the Redskins prefer to have their corners cover the same side of the field throughout the game. But the two are still likely to meet frequently, as Bryant is expected to line up all over the field.

"I can't wait," Bryant told the Dallas Morning News on Tuesday. "I think it's going to be exciting for both sides. We look forward to playing some great football."

Norman said in July that facing receivers like Bryant brings out the best in him, and Dez returned the compliment.

"The feeling's mutual," Bryant said. "He has earned his respect in this league. When you go up against a guy like that, you're going to have bring your best because if you don't, he'll get the best of you."

Why Washington game could be time for Alfred Morris to shine - Kate Hairopoulos, SportsDayHairopoulos talked about Alfred Morris in a recent chat with fans.

Elliott had 20 carries and 51 yards to Morris' 7 carries and 35 yards. Lots of discussion about this one. I wonder how much and how quickly Zeke will improve, considering the rookie played very little in the preseason and missed a big chunk of training camp to that sore hamstring. But you have to give Morris the credit - he looked like the veteran and took advantage of his carries. Why wouldn't you use him more? And he'll be facing his former team on Sunday. Still expect plenty of Zeke, though.

Scouting the Redskins: Do Cowboys head to Washington at right time? Poor run defense favors Ezekiel Elliott, Dallas ground game - Rick Gosselin, SportsDayGosselin explains how the Cowboys can get their ground game going this week.

DeAngelo Williams, Pittsburgh backup halfback, shredded the Redskins in Washington Monday night for 143 yards and two touchdowns on 26 carries. Williams was on the field because Pittsburgh's Pro Bowl halfback Le'Veon Bell was sitting out a three-game suspension this month.

Three of the defensive front seven are gone from Washington's NFC East championship team of a year ago, and they clearly miss the size and veteran savvy of Jason Hatcher and Terrence Knighton up front.

The Problems With The Cowboys Running Game & The Easy Fixes - Dave Halprin, Blogging The BoysThe Cowboys had many points of failure on Sunday running the ball, but can it be corrected? Halprin thinks so.

The offensive line, especially along the interior, did not have a particularly good night. Scott Linehan was determined to test the middle, and didn't really adjust in the game by using more stretch plays and misdirection. He also could have used play-action to better effect. And finally, Elliott was just too quick to the line, maybe had too much adrenaline going in his debut. Once he slowed down just a tad and let the holes form, he looked better.

Phillips: Plenty To Like About Dak's Debut, But Entire Team Must Finish Games - Rob Phillips, Dallas CowboysThe Cowboys have relied on their QB to win games for them for quite a while. That's got to change, Phillips writes.

Nate Newton, my co-host on Talkin' Cowboys, has been harping on this point since Prescott moved into the No. 2 spot . The three-time Super Bowl champ is more concerned with the 20 or so other offensive guys doing their job. That includes the 20-plus defensive guys active in the game, too.

As Jerry Jones said Tuesday, "We can play better. We can block better. Certainly those mistakes on the next-to-last two possessions, oh, how much they hurt, those penalties by some really key guys on our team. And key drops, those hurt. We can expect these players that we have, the supporting cast around Dak, we can expect to play better."

If Dez Bryant Makes Any Of These Three Plays, Dak Prescott's Fortunes Change - Jim Scott, Blogging The BoysScott takes a look at how one single play from Dez Bryant could have changed the game for the Cowboys.

Chaz Green on his debut: 'It was everything that was expected' - Drew Davison, The Star-TelegramChaz Green played six snaps on special teams and another five snaps on offense when Tyron Smith exited briefly with a neck injury. And despite some anxiety created by his play in parts of the preseason, everything went well.

"It was great," Green said. "It was everything that was expected. I had fun out there. This is definitely what I enjoy doing."

'Nobody but the man upstairs' knows when Tony Romo will return, Jerry Jones says - Jon Machota, SportsDayProbably just a poor figure of speech by the Cowboys owner, but this this statement doesn't exactly fill us with confidence.

Jones said "nobody but the man upstairs knows when" Romo will actually be able to return.

"And that hasn't changed," Jones said on 105.3 The Fan's Shan and RJ show [KRLD-FM]. "But he certainly is getting better. He'll have progress by any tangible judgment. He'll have progress this week. He'll have progress next week. What has always been the case is, is it going to be six [weeks], is it going to be 10, is it going to be eight? That's always out there. That hasn't changed."

Dallas Cowboys To Add New Defensive End To The Roster - Dave Halprin, Blogging The BoysDefensive end Ryan Davis, formerly of the Jacksonville Jaguars, will join the Cowboys.

The Cowboys are starting the process of churning the roster, something they will do throughout the season. Sources report the Cowboys will sign defensive end Ryan Davis, formerly of the Jacksonville Jaguars. Davis played four seasons in Jacksonville and notched 11 sacks in that time. The Cowboys released cornerback Dax Swanson yesterday.

Newly signed defensive end Ryan Davis becomes most proven pass rusher on the Dallas Cowboys' roster - Drew Davison, The Star-TelegramNothing like a backhanded compliment in a headline to get the natives riled up.

Davis has 11 career sacks, including 6 1/2 in 2014 and 3 1/2 last season. He was released by the Jaguars earlier this month. Davis, 27, entered the league as an undrafted free agent out of Bethune-Cookman in 2012. He has played in 38 career games, but has yet to make a start.
