WWHL With Dolores Catania and Reza Farahan

I had to take a break before blogging this episode. If it were not for Dolores I probably would have just deleted it from my VCR.  I cannot STAND Reza. I really can't.  And Andy isn't much better.  We all know that Dolores is on the show tonight just so that Frankie can be the bartender.  From the moment we all saw Frankie, we knew that Andy would be obsessed with him.  Frankie is not even old enough to vote, let alone drink.

Andy says Vida will be on the reunion and it is going to be "scorched earth." He's giddy at the demise of the mother daughter relationship.

I totally had no idea Sharknado was on. I am taping a rerun now but it's over an hour in already I think. I will have to catch the first part on demand and then flip over so I can skip the commercials. It actually looked kind of good.

Dolores said she and Teresa had lunch the day before she went to prison and Teresa didn't mention it. She said she felt like Teresa didn't think it was really going to happen. Oh, but it did.

That time he tried to drown MJ

Please God let Andy ask Reza about all the shitty things he has done to everyone on the cast of Shahs and when he is going to apologize.

Wow, on the sneak peek of the re" union, Asa says that MJ is knocking on doors constantly trying to sabotage her business.  It sounds like MJ is very jealous of Asa's success.  They hid that storyline from us this season if true. MJ says she and Asa will never be friends again. That would be a big loss for MJ. In the commercials for the reunion we see Reza crying and leaving the reunion in tears. Does this mean that GG brought the sex tape? Please make it so. Reza so deserves a long hard fall.

Dolores doesn't think that prison changed Teresa. She is just a bit more calmed down and in control of her temper. We will see how long that lasts.

Reza goes in on "some queen named crazy divina," that would be my co-defendent Funky Dineva, an Atlanta blogger who claimed he had filed for chapter 13 bankruptcy. It was not true. I was sent the story at the time he posted it and I found nothing to support the claim.  Wrong county. Wrong name. Not true.

That time he cancelled the wedding and went on the trip without Adam

Someone asks if Reza has apologized to GG after seeing that she is getting treatments. He says he has but the he says, "But Mohammed told me that GG's p…" which I have to admit is pretty fucking funny.  But then he goes on to say more horrible things about GG.

Some asks why Reza is always all up in everyone's business.  He says he loves hard and he cares hard. Really? He is completely delusional.

Dolores was a cop in the sheriff's office for six years. This really seems to impress Andy who says, "Wow, you are like a Charlie's Angel." Which makes zero sense. Much like that dark purple tie he is wearing with a lightweight cotton suit. Why doesn't Andy have a stylist?

Andy springs a boner when Frankie shows off his abs. The really were something to behold but I don't think it's legal to admit that for at least a few more months.

Dolores is fresh of a Brazilian butt lift so she is sitting rather gingerly.

The poll question was whose side are you on?  GG or Reza? I was almost afraid to look but GG won with 63% of the vote.

Your social media profile (or lack thereof) can impact your job search

Can social media impact your job search?

Most definitely. Social media has become a critical skill for networking and promoting your skills to potential employers. So you can bet I was surprised to learn that only a small percentage of my employment counselling clients have a LinkedIn profile, and the few with Facebook or Twitter accounts say they only use them to be in contact with family and friends. And none of them have used blogging as a tool to build their reputation or to get a job.

People choose to engage (or not) in different social media sites in different ways. Some want to keep work stuff separate from private life, some want to stay private altogether, while others see social media a valuable tool to stay in touch, share information, and broadcast their ideas and skills.

Whatever your preference, your use of social media, or lack thereof, can have an impact on your professional life. According to a 2012 survey conducted by Eurocom Worldwide, "Almost one in five technology industry executives say that a candidate's social media profile has caused them not to hire that person." Previous Eurocom surveys had found almost 40 per cent of survey respondents say they review job candidate's profiles on social media sites.

So what you are putting out there on social media matters, as it serves your first impression with employers.

 

Social media to impress

If you're not on social media much —  or at all — you might want to consider starting at least a LinkedIn profile, which is the ultimate professional online networking tool. It allows you to showcase your skills, achievements, education, work and volunteer experience or business. Make sure you have an updated and professional picture, a succinct profile summary, current job information, past job experience, education, skills, awards, and even testimonials.

If you're on several social media sites already, such as Facebook and Twitter, here are a few other considerations. If, like most people, you use Facebook mostly to stay in touch with family and friends, be careful about what you post if your friends' list includes professional contacts. Nothing too personal or controversial! And remember to keep your settings private if you don't want your posts to be visible to everyone.

On Twitter, anyone can start "following" you, so be very careful what you share and say. That being said, if you use it wisely, it can be a very effective tool to share your knowledge, build your reputation, and connect with companies and other professionals. The same goes for YouTube and Instagram if you have video and photographic skills, and blogging using tools like WordPress or Blogger.

Remember that anything you post has the potential to be read, shared — and judged by potential employers! — so choose your words, pictures and videos carefully!

Twitter to livestream its first eSports competition

Aiming to woo the growing league of gamers and turn its fortunes, micro-blogging site Twitter from this weekend will livestream its first eSports competition via ELEAGUE where teams would be playing 'Counter-Strike: Global Offensive' - a multiplayer first-person shooter video game.

Recently, Twitter reached an agreement with ELEAGUE -- a professional eSports organisation - to provide live-streaming coverage of the semi-finals and championship of the gaming competition scheduled to take place on Friday and Saturday in Atlanta (Saturday and Sunday in Indian subcontinent).

In addition to live event coverage, the @EL Twitter handle would provide real-time highlights, GIFs, memes, stats and score updates, Periscope content with ELEAGUE on-air talent and behind-the-scenes footage with players.

With this deal, eSports organisation would have an advantage of using Twitter's audience to interact with fans and promote competitive gaming, Tech Crunch reported.

For Twitter, the deal is a way to tap into a growing audience of gamers eventually getting more active users on its network.

"ESports fans go to Twitter to see and talk about what is happening now in competitive gaming," Anthony Noto, Twitter's Chief Financial Officer, is quoted as saying.

"Gamers are one of the largest and most engaged audiences on Twitter and we are thrilled with this partnership to bring them the live content from Eleague and Twitter commentary they are already looking for, all on one screen," Noto added.

The micro-blogging website is on a spree to sign agreements across the spectrum to livestream their content on its platform.

Recently it inked a pact with Bloomberg Media to stream their shows on Twitter.

Twitter signed a deal with the US television network CBS to stream both the Democratic and Republican National Conventions.

It now has permission to broadcast the CBSN feed -- the company's 24-hour digital news streaming service -- and anyone online can watch for free even if they do not have a Twitter account.

It is known that Twitter will make money from advertising when it streams 10 NFL games later this year, and CBS is a partner for those games too.

FIR against actor Kamal Rashid Khan for harassing female actors online

A FIR was lodged again actor Kamal Rashid Khan aka KRK in Versova Police Station in Mumbai for posting obscene messages and photos on micro-blogging site Twitter.

This came after lawyer Rizwan Siddiqui filed a complaint against the self-proclaimed critic for making lewd remarks against female models and actors on the social media platform.

According to some media reports, Maharashtra State Women Commission (MSWC) earlier took cognizance of the complaint and demanded action against Khan.

In a letter addressed to Mumbai's Police Commissioner, Dattatray Padsalgikar on July 18, the MSWC requested authorities to probe the matter and take requisite action. The MSWC sent the letter a week after the National Commission of Women (NCW) issued a directive against the controversial actor.

Reports suggest that the actor reportedly sexually harassed over 18 female actors on social media.

Tumblr Will Pay to Run Ads on Your Blog

Tumblr bloggers: It's (almost) time to get paid.

The Yahoo-owned blogging service is rolling out ads today, which will translate into cold, hard cash for bloggers later this year.

Tumblr is still working out details of the "partner program," including how bloggers will get paid and how much. You will need to sign-up for the program to make money; you can't do that yet, but registrations are "coming soon." Tumblr said it plans to launch the partner program sometime in 2016.

For now, ads will appear on the three main instances of your blog, Tumblr said, including: the main page, within "the slide-out thing" on the Web, and on mobile apps and the mobile web.

"Tumblr is a place where brilliant, creative, funny, impossible people shape culture. Some of you have even turned your passions into jobs: book deals, music careers, paid gigs," the Tumblr team wrote in their announcement. "Now, that opportunity will be available to any eligible Tumblr—poet, musician, fan artist, and misfit weirdo memelord alike."

Rest assured that if you want to keep your Tumblr ad-free, you can. If you're not comfortable with ads invading your space, head over to your Tumblr's settings to disable on-blog advertising. Right now, you can only do this on the Web, but soon you'll be able to do it from the mobile apps as well.

Why I Will No Longer Post to OpEdNews

For those seemingly few readers at OEN who appreciate my commentary which I post 1-2 time a month, I'm sorry to say that I will no longer be blogging at OEN. Here's why.

First, as a former college teacher, there's nothing I enjoy more than healthy, respectful, well-argued discourse about the issues of our time. As a writer, I also enjoy sharing my thoughts, which derive from a decidedly feminist, left perspective. My pieces often call for serious research because I believe in facts, data, and accuracy. Sometimes they're a reflection of my politics, which in turn reflect my values. I think a lot about the subjects and issues I write about, and I share my thoughts and ideas in what I always hope will be an atmosphere of constructive, lively, and again -- respectful -- exchange.

Sadly, unlike other fora in which my work is published, that has not been the case at OEN. The feedback I have received has largely been hostile, aggressive, uninformed, and insulting.

Don't get me wrong. As a journalist I can take the heat when it offers a point of view worthy of consideration and when it is expressed in a respectful way.

But I have been at this a long time. I'm a woman of a certain age with a lot of experience who takes my responsibility as a commentator very seriously. My copious followers in other venues value what I have to say, even though they sometimes disagree with me. When they do, they tell me politely.

I am no longer willing to allow toxic people into my life, nor am I willing to suffer fools gladly when I am donating my work, my time, and dare I say, my talent. My reward for writing commentary doesn't rely on agreement, but it does seek civility. In the absence of that, I can no longer continue to post on OEN.

PotashCorp Earnings: 3 Key Updates You Can't Miss

Potash Corporation (NYSE:POT) is set to release its second-quarter earnings on July 28, but this report will contain a lot more than just revenue and profit numbers. Given the recent developments in the potash industry, I wouldn't be surprised if PotashCorp lowers its full-year guidance yet again. More importantly, it'll be interesting to hear management's viewpoint about some of the rumors and speculations that are currently swirling around the marketplace, including PotashCorp's possible takeover. Keeping that in mind, here are the three most significant updates that you simply cannot miss in PotashCorp's upcoming earnings report.

Canpotex's stand on contracts with China and India

PotashCorp's sales depend largely on demand from China and India -- the top two potash-consuming nations in the world. Absence of contracts from these nations was the major reason PotashCorp lowered its full-year earnings guidance in the first quarter to $0.60-$0.80 per share from $0.90-$1.2 a share.

Unfortunately, PotashCorp's hopes to crack a deal during the second quarter have been dashed even as rivals like Belaruskali recently signed contracts with both India and China. Canpotex -- the offshore potash marketing group comprising PotashCorp, Agrium, and Mosaic (NYSE:MOS) -- is yet to sign any. The only probable reason could be Canpotex's stand to not sell potash at the decade-low prices that other producers have agreed upon. However, that could cost Canpotex crucial market share if sales volumes don't pick up soon.

So how does PotashCorp intend to boost revenues in such a grim situation? That's an answer investors need to look for in the company's upcoming earnings call. While analysts are expecting PotashCorp's second-quarter sales to drop more almost 30% and its earnings per share to come in at only $0.19 per share compared to $0.50 a year ago, the numbers could look worse.

Is a merger or a sale in the pipeline?

Last month, the rumor mills started spinning with reports of PotashCorp having appointed an investment banker after "possibly receiving an unsolicited takeover proposal." Analysts are even counting BHP Billiton, Mosaic, and Agrium among possible contenders.

Of course, I'd be surprised if PotashCorp management comes out this week and says the company's up for sale. However, I will be tuned into the upcoming earnings call to know the company's plans, especially after its recently failed multi-billion dollar bid for Germany-based K+S. With peer Mosaic reportedly eyeing Vale SA's (NYSE:VALE)  fertilizer business to expand its global footprint, PotashCorp may have to up its ante to remain at the forefront in the industry in these challenging yet competitive times.

PotashCorp's take on the Belarus news

Perhaps the biggest news to hit potash headlines last month was Belarus' revelation its interest in reuniting with Uralkali, three years after the Belaruskali-Uralkali cartel split that sent global potash prices and producers' profits tumbling. The split ended up giving potash consumers greater bargaining power, which is why countries like China and India can command such low potash prices today.

Needless to say, a reunion will act as a balm for potash companies through better control over supply and prices. PotashCorp management may not directly comment on the speculation, but anything it says on a probable alliance could provide valuable hints. More importantly, whether PotashCorp itself is looking at partnerships to improve the demand and supply situation in the industry will be an update worth watching for in its upcoming earnings call.
