Gas Pains is Closing Down and Going Dark

Blogging About The Blog

It's time to pull the plug on the old blog, wrap things-up, put the keyboard to alternate use and shutter the shop.  It's the end of the trail.  The following arrived in my inbox last week.

March 15, 2016

Dear Blogger:

I am writing today to let you know that we will be making some significant changes in how we handle our submitted content on the MyCommunityNow and LakeCountryNow websites.

Our company is on the verge of moving into new ownership and we are re-evaluating the content on our sites; a primary area that has come into focus are the community blogging platforms. As we look to our future and the content we want to provide to our readers, we have determined we want responsibility for all of the content posted on our site. Therefore, we are moving to a model that emphasizes original content that has been curated by our staff.

In charting our new direction, maintaining our strongly emphasis on local information and managing our resources more effectively, we will discontinue further posting and commenting on existing blogs effective March 31, 2016. The blogs will not be prominently displayed on our site after that date. We will continue to live by our guidelines until that time so please honor those terms until the day arrives.

There are many places online where you can continue with your blog, WordPress being one of many. You are welcome to direct your readers in your current posting to your new venue. For those who wish to still share opinions on local issues, commenting on stories on our site will continue, as will our Public Forum section, which runs in print and online. Your Stories works best for informational items.

We're sorry for any inconvenience this change might cause. For some of you, this has been almost 10 years of community blogging, a long time by Internet measures. We hope you have found this experience rewarding. We thank you for all you've contributed and we wish you luck in the future.

Sincerely,

Scott Peterson

Editor-in-Chief

After almost ten years of blogging Gas Pains is going dark.  Scott is correct - short of a decade is a long time by web standards.  It's been a good run tapping-out various opinions, stories and musings from the warming glow of my computer monitor.  I have had a great deal of fun, acquired new friends and established some meaningful relationships as a consequence.  Who knows - I might even have made a difference.

There has been the politics, the gardening, the Labs, a tiny bit of controversy, wildlife and great debates.  Deer camp came to Tosa every fall.  I owe a debt of gratitude to my 92 readers who have popularized this blogger's posts and generated traffic to the WauwatosaNOW community website.  Seriously, where else but here does the entire World Wide Web come to find out how to make crispy, crunchy sweet pickles.

I want to thank Mark Maley for talking me into doing this and The Mothership for the forum.

If you are inclined to burn-up valuable bandwidth on the interweb you might wish to bookmark these links as you can still follow Gas Pains on Facebook and there is always the other blog:  Verrückter Deutscher Campingplatz.  Commentary, observations and musings about the outdoors, politics and life in general will be migrating to those forums.  The Great and Terrible Oz has figured significantly in this year's GOP primary season and perhaps may be a candidate for POTUS.  Loathsome individuals are worth blogging-about.

Thanks to all of you for reading and see you around town!

Tom Gaertner
